Our History
NEOS (New England OverShoe Co., Inc.) was started in September 1994. The original focus of the company was to design, build and distribute a new approach to an old concept, the overshoe.
Since 1994, using modern materials and construction techniques, NEOS has been reinventing the overshoe. NEOS overshoes are lightweight, waterproof, and durable. NEOS fit over any footwear, compact for travel, and look cool. NEOS launched its first products through mail order catalogs, shoe and retail outlets. Over the past nine years, the company has grown through this channel as well as through a distribution in the uniform business.
In 2001, NEOS was contacted by Dr. Graeme Magor of Schneider Foods in Kitchener Ontario, Canada. Dr. Magor, an industrial and sports medicine doctor, is an avid arctic explorer. During one of his expeditions over-wintering on Ellesmere Island in the far north, he relied on the benefits of NEOS: waterproof, insulating, and durable outer footwear. Upon his return, trying to solve stubborn footwear issues in food processing plants, he contacted NEOS to see if they could work on a solution. His workers were suffering from a number of ailments as a result of wearing various off-the-shelf footwear. Common problems included: plantar fasciitis, joint pain, lower back pain, chaffed legs from boot cuffs, and issues related to poor ankle support. Dr. Magor was looking for a solution that would address these problems as well as target HAACP issues related to clean practices and the all important area of food safety. Together, NEOS and Schneider Foods have developed and tested the Food Processing NEOS. This ground breaking product incorporates the following features: a customized polyurethane (PU) chevron sole for improved traction and prevent trapping of product; a PU upper that does not harbor bacteria and can be readily cleaned both inside and out; a light weight design for less worker fatigue: and ease of use (donning and removing) to minimize strain injuries. These overshoes and their steel toed successors are revolutionizing footwear use in food and pharmaceutical plants worldwide. |
